On 12 May 2025, an online information session was held as part of the STT Research Funding Support initiative, focusing on Horizon Europe—the European Union’s flagship funding program for research and innovation.
Securing external funding is a key priority for MIRAI in fostering long-term research collaboration between Sweden and Japan. The Specific Task Team (STT), a working group supporting research activities initiated by MIRAI’s four Global Challenges Teams, plays a vital role in this effort. MIRAI currently operates three STTs, with two additional teams dedicated to Communication & Branding and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
The session took place online from 09:00–10:00 CEST / 16:00–17:00 JST and attracted around 40 participants. From the EU Delegation to Japan, Mr. Gijs Berends and Mr. Tom Kuczynski of the Science, Innovation, and Digital Policies Section shared insights into the latest developments in EU-Japan research collaboration and introduced various funding opportunities under Horizon Europe. Additionally, Ms. Fumiko Oda, representing Japan’s National Contact Point for Horizon Europe, provided an overview of Japan’s current participation status in the program.
The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, during which the speakers addressed numerous questions from attendees with thoughtful and informative responses.
STT Research Funding Support plans to continue organizing similar events to support MIRAI researchers, project managers, and other key stakeholders engaged in building sustainable research partnerships between Sweden and Japan.
